JUDGE LARRY A. JONES, SR.
Larry A. Jones,
Sr. was elected to the Eighth District Court
of Appeals on November 4, 2008. His
leadership abilities were evident early on
when he became active at Glenville High
School, where he was elected President of
the Student Council.

get involved because, in our system, there
is always someone making decisions, and I
soon realized you can be part of that
decision-making process. I get upset when
people say they cannot make a difference. We
have the best system of justice--over 200
years old and it is still working."
being elected to the Court of Appeals, Judge
Jones served 21 years on the Cleveland
Municipal Court. He served as the Presiding
and Administrative Judge for 14 years.
While on the
Cleveland Municipal Court, Judge Jones was
selected by his colleagues to serve as judge
of the Greater Cleveland Drug Court, a
collaborative program of city and county
agencies designed to hold drug offenders
accountable and provide treatment resources
to break the cycle of drug abuse and
drug-related crime and to reduce recidivism.
Judge Jones served in that capacity for 11
received his Bachelor of Arts degree from
the College of Wooster and his juris
doctorate from the Case Western Reserve
University Law School. After graduating from
law school, he served as an assistant
Cuyahoga County prosecutor from 1978 until
1981, when he won a seat on the Cleveland
City Council. After serving 6 years as Ward
10 Councilman, he was elected judge of the
Cleveland Municipal Court in 1987, and was
re-elected in 1993, 1999, and in 2005.
is a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan
Bar Association, the Norman S. Minor Bar
Association, the National Bar Association
and the Ohio State Bar Association. He is
also a member of the National Association of
Drug Court Professionals and the Greater
Cleveland Drug Court Advisory Board. Judge
Jones is involved in many community and
civic-oriented organizations, including the
100 Black Men of Greater Cleveland. In his
spare time, he enjoys an occasional round of
golf and has become an avid woodworker.
is a member of the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church,
and he and his wife, Jennifer, are the proud
parents of two grown children, LaToya and
Larry II, and one granddaughter, Ciarra.
