Larry A. Jones, Sr. was elected to the Eighth District Court of Appeals on November 4, 2008. His leadership abilities were evident early on when he became active at Glenville High School, where he was elected President of the Student Council.

"I chose to get involved because, in our system, there is always someone making decisions, and I soon realized you can be part of that decision-making process. I get upset when people say they cannot make a difference. We have the best system of justice--over 200 years old and it is still working."

Prior to being elected to the Court of Appeals, Judge Jones served 21 years on the Cleveland Municipal Court. He served as the Presiding and Administrative Judge for 14 years.

While on the Cleveland Municipal Court, Judge Jones was selected by his colleagues to serve as judge of the Greater Cleveland Drug Court, a collaborative program of city and county agencies designed to hold drug offenders accountable and provide treatment resources to break the cycle of drug abuse and drug-related crime and to reduce recidivism. Judge Jones served in that capacity for 11 years.

Judge Jones received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Wooster and his juris doctorate from the Case Western Reserve University Law School. After graduating from law school, he served as an assistant Cuyahoga County prosecutor from 1978 until 1981, when he won a seat on the Cleveland City Council. After serving 6 years as Ward 10 Councilman, he was elected judge of the Cleveland Municipal Court in 1987, and was re-elected in 1993, 1999, and in 2005.

Judge Jones is a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, the Norman S. Minor Bar Association, the National Bar Association and the Ohio State Bar Association. He is also a member of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals and the Greater Cleveland Drug Court Advisory Board. Judge Jones is involved in many community and civic-oriented organizations, including the 100 Black Men of Greater Cleveland. In his spare time, he enjoys an occasional round of golf and has become an avid woodworker.

Judge Jones is a member of the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, and he and his wife, Jennifer, are the proud parents of two grown children, LaToya and Larry II, and one granddaughter, Ciarra.
