JUDGE COLLEEN CONWAY COONEY
Judge Colleen
Conway Cooney was first elected to the
Eighth District Court of Appeals in 2000 and
reelected in 2006. She received her B.S.
degree from Western Reserve College (1978)
and her J.D. degree from Case Western
Reserve University Law School (1981). Prior
to her election, she served nine years as a
Cleveland Municipal judge, eight years as an
assistant prosecuting attorney for Cuyahoga
County, and two years as a judicial law
clerk at the Eighth District Court of
Appeals for the late Judge John V. Corrigan.
Judge Cooney is a past president of the
William K. Thomas Inn of Court. She
currently serves on the Congregation of St.
Joseph Ministries Board. She was appointed
to serve on the Ohio Supreme Court’s
Commission on Certification of Attorneys as
Specialists and on the Task Force on the
Code of Judicial Conduct, and has served as
a member of the Judicial Advisory Group,
part of the Ohio Lawyers Assistance Program,
since its inception in 2006. She is
currently the Co-Chair of the Ethics and
Professionalism Committee of the Ohio
Judicial Conference. In 1999, the Cleveland
Bar Association named her one of "Ten
Outstanding Cleveland Women in the Law," and
in 2001 she was inducted into the Society of
Benchers of the CWRU Law School.
